Well, I picked up the phone and I was about to dial the computer technician, but I hesitated-because if the computer technician came surely he would ask me how did this problem start?                                                                      
                                                                        

Then, I would have to confess-instead of working I was browsing the internet and I clicked on a link for a free laptop computer.

I thought maybe if I just ignore the problem, it would go away.  But, the next day, the problem continued, and the second day the problem continued.  Until finally, I swallowed my pride and called the computer technician.

He came down stairs and he looked at my computer and he asked, “How did this problem start?  I confessed, “I clicked on a link for a free laptop computer.”  The computer tech smiled and nodded his head.  He said, “this is a common problem.  When you click on these free computer ads, tiny programs called spyware are attached secretly and stored on your computer hard drive.

The spyware acts like electronic espionage agents that alert companies every time you browse the web.  These companies then begin to spam you with unwanted popup ads.”  “Oh no”, I said, “Have I destroyed the computer?”    Read more...
